VOION Land Products – Healthy and High-Quality Legumes

Location: Tsotyli, Voinin (Greece)

Main activities and expected outcomes

This community-led initiative promotes legume cultivation and processing through sustainable farming practices and strong local branding. The expected outcomes include a more diversified local economy, healthier food products, and greater resilience for small-scale farmers.

Rural problem addressed

The region faces rural depopulation, unemployment, and limited income opportunities for farmers. Although legumes offer benefits for soil health, biodiversity, and market potential, they remain largely underexploited in the area.

Best practices

  • Use of best practices in agri-food branding, organic certification, and cooperative business models

  • Adoption of digital marketing tools and short supply chains to link producers directly with consumers

  • Application of lessons from VOION on diversification and branding to support replication in other rural communities
