Main activities and expected outcomes
StreekWaar is an association of over 40 agro-ecological food producers in the region. Its members include farmers (dairy, sheep, arable), vegetable gardeners, processors (a miller, bakers, brewers), shops, and caterers. The association promotes transparency, cooperation, and advocacy to secure more land for agroecological businesses.
Rural problem addressed
By working closely together, members aim to create greater financial stability, enjoyment, and sustainability for their small businesses. The initiative also encourages local sourcing to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and increase local food sovereignty.
Best practices
- Collaborations between arable farmers and brewers, vegetable gardeners and caterers
- Health food shop members carry products from almost all other members
- Communal market stall at the Saturday market in Wageningen, run by producers and volunteers
StreekWaar demonstrates how a thriving agroecological community can uphold core values while improving sustainability across agriculture, processing, and even touristic activities. Its network of co-operations serves as a model for rural resilience and collaboration.
